How the verdict is scored

Scoring rule · pre-registered 6 September 2026

Published seven days before the first verdicts resolve, so the rule is on the record ahead of the result rather than after it.

Every sealed prediction declares its own shape, and is scored the way it was written down:

  • Threshold (“at least N”). Correct when the observed count meets or exceeds N. Overshooting is not an error: a claim of “at least 8” that observes 22 is right, not 175% wrong.
  • Point estimate (“N”). Scored on relative error. It counts as a hit when calibration, one minus the mean relative error, is 0.6 or better.

A prediction that resolves but cannot be scored is reported as ungraded and excluded from the hit rate. It is never silently counted as a miss.

This rule was fixed and published before any of the 17 predictions due on 13 September had been graded.
